LIMA — The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District has released its comprehensive schedule for drop-off recycling programs across Allen County for the month of October. Residents in multiple townships and communities will have opportunities to dispose of recyclable materials at designated locations and times, as announced by the district.

Several convenient collection points have been established for the public. The first event for October is set for American Township, taking place on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. This drop-off will be located in the northwest corner of the Lima Mall parking lot, found at 2400 Elida Road in Lima.

Cairo and Monroe Township residents can utilize the service on Thursday, Oct. 8, between 2:30 and 5 p.m. The collection point for this date will be on South Wall Street in Cairo, according to the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District.

Mid-month, Bath Township will host a drop-off on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. The Bath Township Hall, located at 2880 Ada Road in Lima, will serve as the site for this event.

Two separate events are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20. Harrod and Auglaize Township residents can drop off recyclables from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Allen East Community Center parking lot, 9520 Harrod Road in Harrod. Later that same day, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., Lafayette and Jackson Township will have a collection event in the parking lot east of the fire station, located at 215 E. Sugar St. in Lafayette.

Shawnee Township's drop-off program is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22. Residents can bring their items to the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District Office, Suite D, at 815 Shawnee Road in Lima, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The final recycling opportunity for the month will serve Delphos on Saturday, Oct. 24. This event will run from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Delphos Fuel and Truck Wash, situated at 1770 E. Fifth St. in Delphos.

The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District specified the types of materials acceptable at these drop-off locations. Acceptable paper items include newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes, telephone books, junk mail, office paper, and brown paper grocery bags. Cardboard is also accepted, provided it is flattened and does not exceed two square feet in size.

For plastics, only rinsed bottles and jugs labeled #1 and #2 are accepted. Residents can also bring rinsed green, brown, and clear glass food jars and bottles. Metal cans, including aluminum, steel, and tin varieties, are acceptable if they are rinsed. However, the district clearly stated that plastic bags will not be accepted at any of the drop-off locations.
