Schulte, 51, was booked into the Van Wert County Jail on Tuesday, according to information provided by the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office. His departure from school responsibilities was communicated to families in a letter from the school, which cited an incident that led to his jailing.
For nearly three decades, Schulte has been a central part of the Delphos St. John’s athletic program. This year marks his 28th season as the head football coach for the Blue Jays. In addition to his leadership on the field, Schulte also held significant administrative positions within the school, serving as both the dean of students for the junior high and middle school divisions, and as the athletic director for the entire school. These combined roles placed him at the heart of student life and sports management at Delphos St. John’s.
Following the incident, Delphos St. John’s administration moved quickly to ensure continuity in leadership. A letter sent to school families confirmed that Schulte "has stepped away from his responsibilities." The school announced several interim appointments to cover Schulte's former duties. Aaron Dubow has been named the interim athletic director, taking over the day-to-day management of the school’s sports programs. Dan Metzger will assume the role of interim head football coach, leading the Blue Jays on the gridiron. Adam Lee has been appointed as the interim dean of students, responsible for student affairs in the junior high and middle school.
The letter to families, signed by Adam Lee, now interim dean of students, and Nathan Stant, the head of school, acknowledged the questions this development might generate within the school community.
